Preservation of water
People are becoming aware of the need to preserve water for future generations. One of the practical ways is to design water-wise garden it also helps to save money and water. Through this way our community can be inspired to sustain their garden through water collection and conservation. The everyday Australian backyard covered in concrete, uses high water use plants and has water sources which leads to storm water drains.

GEF analyses the water strategies of MENA region
On its closing day of GEF had given importance on the water strategies and its reuse in the MENA region. The discussion highlighted advance strategies for safe and eco-friendly potable water production. But studies implemented by SAES between 2007and 2011 on potable water production showed higher values of TDS, EC, turbidity due to the poor maintenance and inappropriate materials of the storage tanks in both urban and non-urban areas.

Desalination remains the last resort
Use of water must be reduced in the Arabian Gulf, experts say at the conference on Water and Food security held on March 26. They are of the opinion that if the usage of water isn’t reduced, desalination is the only remaining solution for ensuring water security in the UAE and wider Gulf.

India Water pollution: a growing menace

Poor indoor air quality leads to poor health.
Indoor pollutants like volatile organic compounds, fibbers, emissions and residue contribute largely health problems like sneezing, head aches, nose or throat irritation, fatigue, difficulty in concentrating and sensitivity to odours. These health complaints persist till the quality of indoor air is improved by designing energy efficient building and adopting preventive measures, like installing appropriate air purifiers.

Does air purifier help to prevent you from losing cognitive stability?
A recent study has come up with the inference that there is a chance in declination of cognitive function due to the effect of exposure to air pollution, after conducting an in-depth research on the cognitive health of older women in urban areas. The study is not exactly relating to the declination of the functions of brain, but exposure to air pollution in urban areas can mostly lead to cardiovascular attacks.

Are air filters a necessary to reduce health hazards?
We have already heard of the countries taking initiative to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide but a study run by a group of countries have revealed that three other pollutants methane, black carbon and HFC also accounts for the global rise in temperature from 30 to 40 percent. To reduce health hazards that can be caused by the black carbon (which is the most harmful) in atmosphere, we can install filters on diesel engines, replace traditional cook stoves with efficient model and avoid the open burning of agriculture waste.
